Chess and Wilson Game

Today I versed  Emily at chess, first we played a little version. I was white and Emily was black. Then we played again.  Again I was white, we were playing on the HUGE chess board. I was moving the wrong moves every time I  moved, it was very frustrating but I won.!!

Also today at Enrich we played a Wilson game called Piccadilly Circus we might be the top group for the week with 38 seconds, how amazing is that!! I think we should be the top group because we got a score of 38 seconds!!! Later in the afternoon we might be playing with 4 balls and I really hope that we get a good time like last time.

Air Pollution!!!

Today we watched an important video about air pollution. It said on a website that Wellington, New Zealand was the cleanest city in the world, how amazing!!! My wondering was why do they have thousands of factories in one little city and then the manager of the factory just leaves it to make the smoke turn into air pollution? In Ahvaz, Iran their air pollution is 372 micrograms per cubic metre and that is really bad. I think animals are being effected by the air pollution because they are eating litter and breathing in smoke.

The Furry Possum

On Thursday another day of trapping with Alfredo. Tim couldn't help today because he had other things to do than do trapping with us. Guess what? Half way down the track we went to check on our traps we
found a possum It was huge hanging down from the trap. SCARY! It had big claws and his feet looked like troll feet. Alfredo said I was a good help at setting the traps up and inside the possum trap was an apple and a string that strangles the possum that comes into the trap. Sometimes a rodent would go into the trap and eat the apple that made me very disappointed because they are not allowed to eat the apple.
Here is a picture of the pesty possum.  But he is also very cute!

Another day at Seaward Bush

On Thursday we went back to Seaward Bush to check on our wax tabs Tim and Alfredo came to help us set up some box traps that catches ferrets, stoats and rodents. Sarah had to mark the letters on an Environment Southland pad if there was a possum bite Sarah would write P if there was a rodent bite Sarah would write R if there was nothing Sarah would write 0. On further on the track there was a wax tab that was fully bitten to bits it was a possum. Later on the track we set out some possum traps the trap sets fast. It would strangle them. Here is a picture to show you. They look so cute when they are babies.

Seaward Bush

Today at Enrich I went to Seaward Bush.  We went there to do some trapping.  We met Tim Riding from Environment Southland.  First we put a trap down that should catch either a possums, ferret, stoat or a rodent.  Then we laid down 50 wax tabs.  The wax tabs are to see what kinds of pests there are because they chew on the wax and you can see their teeth marks and work out which pest it is.  Later on down the track we laid down some more wax tabs and put this orange gooey stuff on the wax.  This will attract possums.  Next week, we are going back down to Seaward Bush to see if there are any bite marks on our wax tabs, and if we caught anything in the trap.  It has been a really good day!

Creative writing.

Today I did creative writing. We got a picture of a clown and we had to make a character out of it.  I called the clown Willy. I said he was 82 and he had a tiny car that was as small as a bug. I thought that was funny.  We had to write about something that was memorable.  I wrote about my Aunty Tania and when we had to pick her up from the airport in Queenstown when she came down from the North Island.  That was memorable because it was the first time I ever met her!

Teacher Comment

Hi Tara.
Thank you so much for your help this morning constructing our email to Environment Southland to find out if we can help at Seaward Bush.  It takes a bit to write an email - and all your suggestions were polite and to the point!  I hope we hear back from them soon.  I’m so pleased you enjoyed making elephant toothpaste today.  The expression on your face in the photos Jenni took was of pure excitment!  Great that you have included these on your blog!  Well done on using your time so wisely today and keeping on top of your workload.  Katie.
