I am Tara and I am a year 5 and this is my 2nd year at Enrich@ILT. I love netball, playing with my friends, swimming, reading and science. At Enrich we are learning about patterns. Patterns come from a lot of different countries. Patterns are very cool and I hope we are going to make some art based patterns.

Another day at Seaward Bush
On Thursday we went back to Seaward Bush to check on our wax tabs Tim and Alfredo came to help us set up some box traps that catches ferrets, stoats and rodents. Sarah had to mark the letters on an Environment Southland pad if there was a possum bite Sarah would write P if there was a rodent bite Sarah would write R if there was nothing Sarah would write 0. On further on the track there was a wax tab that was fully bitten to bits it was a possum. Later on the track we set out some possum traps the trap sets fast. It would strangle them. Here is a picture to show you. They look so cute when they are babies.

Seaward Bush
Today at Enrich I went to Seaward Bush. We went there to do some trapping. We met Tim Riding from Environment Southland. First we put a trap down that should catch either a possums, ferret, stoat or a rodent. Then we laid down 50 wax tabs. The wax tabs are to see what kinds of pests there are because they chew on the wax and you can see their teeth marks and work out which pest it is. Later on down the track we laid down some more wax tabs and put this orange gooey stuff on the wax. This will attract possums. Next week, we are going back down to Seaward Bush to see if there are any bite marks on our wax tabs, and if we caught anything in the trap. It has been a really good day!

Creative writing.
Today I did creative writing. We got a picture of a clown and we had to make a character out of it. I called the clown Willy. I said he was 82 and he had a tiny car that was as small as a bug. I thought that was funny. We had to write about something that was memorable. I wrote about my Aunty Tania and when we had to pick her up from the airport in Queenstown when she came down from the North Island. That was memorable because it was the first time I ever met her!

Teacher Comment
Hi Tara.
Thank you so much for your help this morning constructing our email to Environment Southland to find out if we can help at Seaward Bush. It takes a bit to write an email - and all your suggestions were polite and to the point! I hope we hear back from them soon. I’m so pleased you enjoyed making elephant toothpaste today. The expression on your face in the photos Jenni took was of pure excitment! Great that you have included these on your blog! Well done on using your time so wisely today and keeping on top of your workload. Katie.

Elephant Toothpaste.
Today I buddied up with Violet to do a science experiment. Jenni helped us too of course - we couldn't do it alone! First we had to get a measuring cylinder, then we went to over to the tarpaulin and Jenni put some hydrogen peroxide in. Then we went back to the table and put some active yeast in as well. Then we put hot water in and mixed it altogether. Then we went back to the tarpaulin and we put some liquid soap in the measuring cylinder and 4 little drops of food colouring. Then it EXPLODED out of the measuring cylinder! It looked like a big volcano with lava all around it. It was really cool!
