The Wolf

Today at Enrich me and Tabbitha carried on with our papier machie Wolf. We had to shape it out today, well Darryn did the shaping! We had to hold onto the wolf while Darryn shaped it. It looked like a tiger but a little bit like a seal as well! It was fun and I think it will look great when it's finished. I hope that we can get it done by the end of the term.

All or nothing.

This morning at Enrich we played a Wilson game and this time finally I am in group 1  Katie was the point counter in our team we got at the end sometimes and I also got a our  team at the end hoop but the people in my team couldn't catch  the gorilla bean bag and we had to go back to the start hoop because I threw the gorilla too high in the air so they couldn't catch it and also Darryn's group won three times in a row this is how you play: you have four hoops and a bin you can have a ball or a little bean bag that you can throw in the bin if you get it in the hoop you move the bin into the 2 hoop and throw the ball or little bean bag to the other person in the line then you keep on going and going until your at the last hoop.

Macgyver Challenge.

Today at Enrich we played a technology challenge and I partnered up with Emily and Brianna  and we had to do a  Macgyver challange and we had to make a construction that could pull the chisel and the hammer back to us before the bomb exploded and we had no luck at all also the strings we too short
and Briana and I had to hold Emilys heels because if you put your heels down you're out and you have to stay in one spot. At last the construction broke!

Chess and Wilson Game

Today I versed  Emily at chess, first we played a little version. I was white and Emily was black. Then we played again.  Again I was white, we were playing on the HUGE chess board. I was moving the wrong moves every time I  moved, it was very frustrating but I won.!!

Also today at Enrich we played a Wilson game called Piccadilly Circus we might be the top group for the week with 38 seconds, how amazing is that!! I think we should be the top group because we got a score of 38 seconds!!! Later in the afternoon we might be playing with 4 balls and I really hope that we get a good time like last time.

Air Pollution!!!

Today we watched an important video about air pollution. It said on a website that Wellington, New Zealand was the cleanest city in the world, how amazing!!! My wondering was why do they have thousands of factories in one little city and then the manager of the factory just leaves it to make the smoke turn into air pollution? In Ahvaz, Iran their air pollution is 372 micrograms per cubic metre and that is really bad. I think animals are being effected by the air pollution because they are eating litter and breathing in smoke.

The Furry Possum

On Thursday another day of trapping with Alfredo. Tim couldn't help today because he had other things to do than do trapping with us. Guess what? Half way down the track we went to check on our traps we
found a possum It was huge hanging down from the trap. SCARY! It had big claws and his feet looked like troll feet. Alfredo said I was a good help at setting the traps up and inside the possum trap was an apple and a string that strangles the possum that comes into the trap. Sometimes a rodent would go into the trap and eat the apple that made me very disappointed because they are not allowed to eat the apple.
Here is a picture of the pesty possum.  But he is also very cute!

Another day at Seaward Bush

On Thursday we went back to Seaward Bush to check on our wax tabs Tim and Alfredo came to help us set up some box traps that catches ferrets, stoats and rodents. Sarah had to mark the letters on an Environment Southland pad if there was a possum bite Sarah would write P if there was a rodent bite Sarah would write R if there was nothing Sarah would write 0. On further on the track there was a wax tab that was fully bitten to bits it was a possum. Later on the track we set out some possum traps the trap sets fast. It would strangle them. Here is a picture to show you. They look so cute when they are babies.

Seaward Bush

Today at Enrich I went to Seaward Bush.  We went there to do some trapping.  We met Tim Riding from Environment Southland.  First we put a trap down that should catch either a possums, ferret, stoat or a rodent.  Then we laid down 50 wax tabs.  The wax tabs are to see what kinds of pests there are because they chew on the wax and you can see their teeth marks and work out which pest it is.  Later on down the track we laid down some more wax tabs and put this orange gooey stuff on the wax.  This will attract possums.  Next week, we are going back down to Seaward Bush to see if there are any bite marks on our wax tabs, and if we caught anything in the trap.  It has been a really good day!

Creative writing.

Today I did creative writing. We got a picture of a clown and we had to make a character out of it.  I called the clown Willy. I said he was 82 and he had a tiny car that was as small as a bug. I thought that was funny.  We had to write about something that was memorable.  I wrote about my Aunty Tania and when we had to pick her up from the airport in Queenstown when she came down from the North Island.  That was memorable because it was the first time I ever met her!

Teacher Comment

Hi Tara.
Thank you so much for your help this morning constructing our email to Environment Southland to find out if we can help at Seaward Bush.  It takes a bit to write an email - and all your suggestions were polite and to the point!  I hope we hear back from them soon.  I’m so pleased you enjoyed making elephant toothpaste today.  The expression on your face in the photos Jenni took was of pure excitment!  Great that you have included these on your blog!  Well done on using your time so wisely today and keeping on top of your workload.  Katie.

Elephant Toothpaste.

Today I buddied  up with Violet to do a science experiment. Jenni helped us too of course - we couldn't do it alone! First we had to get a measuring cylinder, then we went to over to the tarpaulin and Jenni put some hydrogen peroxide in.  Then we went back to the table and put some active yeast in as well.  Then we put hot water in and mixed it altogether.  Then we went back to the tarpaulin and we put some liquid soap in the measuring cylinder and 4 little drops of food colouring.  Then it EXPLODED out of the measuring cylinder!  It looked like a big volcano with lava all around it.  It was really cool!

Reflection at Enrich

Hi! It's me again, Tara. I am going to tell you about my reflection. I have just finished it finally - Have a look!  I am really proud of it. I hope you enjoy it. Today at Enrich we played a Wilson game. It was really hard because you had to work as a team to jump together to get into a hoop.  Sometimes people were jumping before Katie clapped, so you had to go back to the start! It taught us good strategies on working together and it was really good to warm our brains up this morning!!

My mask made from clay

Today I  got to work with clay. I was making a mask out out of clay. First Katie cut the clay then we had to flatten the clay out. Next, Katie put newspaper under the clay to give the mask a 3D shape. Then we had to soften the face. After that I made the pieces to attach to my mask - eyebrows, eyes, pupils, ears, nose and lips.  We had to score these pieces and then score the part of the mask where we wanted to attach it.  My mask will be left to dry now.  I might try to do a coil pot next time.

Teacher comment

Drama talent development was definitely a great choice Tara you really embraced the chance to get into character and perform. It is also good to see you willingly trying all the other opportunities and challenges that enrich has to offer, as well as making some new friends.
A great start keep it up!

Drama

Today we had to pick our talent development.  We could choose from drama, photography and maths.  I chose drama.  We looked at some videos of people dressing up in clothes and pretending to be fairy tale characters.  They told the stories mainly with their voices and a little bit of acting.  We had to pretend to be a troll under the bridge in the Billy Goats Gruff story.  I got to be the troll, and a wicked witch, I sounded like a chipmunk!  It was fun getting to be a little pig in the Three Little Pigs!

How to make a tornado

It has been so much fun at Enrich so far. I can make a tornado out of  two big plastic bottles. You fill it one bottle with water and glitter. Next you put the other bottle on the top of the filled bottle and tape it together.  Next. you have to turn it upside down quickly, and swirled it.  The water from the top, drains to the bottom like a tornado.  The water moving downwards, is like the cold air inside a real tornado.  The air from the empty bottle, moves up to the top bottle just like the hot air moves upwards in a real tornado.  Katie asked up to find out what a vortex is.  It can be fast, spinning air or water (fluid).

enrich

I have had so much fun at enrich this week. I have learned lots about perspective from last week.
I have written a biopoem which is a poem about me and we had a chess lesson then we played leaderboard chess and I won my game. We also did some more theatre sports and we played a game called props where you work in pairs to use ordinary things in different and unusual ways and we also had a co operative game called pagasaurus where we had to get pegs off the other teams backs.

Starting at Enrich

This year I have been learning about perspective.  Perspective is the different ways of looking at the same thing.  One Thursday we went on a field trip to learn perspective.  We went to the water tower and that was so high! It was scary up the top.  The art gallery's paintings were so beautiful! The last place we went to was the Basilica.  The pictures on the glass in the windows were about Jesus and his friends.  We got to see the old organ and Bible.  My favourite part of the trip was seeing the city from way up high - a birds eye view.
